New Nvidia GTX 280 & 260 Video Cards with PhysX
Nvidia just keeps rocking the PC Gaming world over & over!
Read the article on megagames this morning and Nvidia’s new Graphics Card Series (codename D10U-30 and D10U-20) sounds really promising. Obviously Nvidia would start including PhysX in their products as they bought AGEIA a while back and Nvidia announcing that all the 8-series and up cards will support (firmware upgradeable) PhysX.
So on top of the built in PhysX in die new series cards, the stream processors will be 50% faster than the G90 ones. Sweet.
GTX 280 ships with a 512-bit memory bus capable of supporting 1GB GDDR3 memory and GTX 260 alternative has a 448-bit bus with support for 896MB.
The naming; GTX 280 and GTX 260 is well needed as Nvidia ran out of 4digit numbers since the 9900. The naming of the current cards always made sense as the first digit indicated the generation card and the 2nd digit the ’speed’ (like cc on a car), so hopefully Nvidia will keep model numbers that can indicate something about the card.
Expected ETA is currently 18 June 2008 (ja, that’s like tomorrow!)
No announced cost yet… But knowing Nvidia a little, they’ll probably keep the price at an affordable:
level.
